Hims & Hers launches a new dietary supplement to fight urinary tract infections

Direct-to-consumer virtual care company Hims & Hers is once again expanding its product line, this time with the launch of a powdered dietary supplement to support urinary tract health.

Hims & Hers sells the powder in packs of 10 individual sachets flavored with cranberry and raspberry. The ingredients include D-mannose, a sugar found in cranberry juice; electrolytes like calcium, magnesium and potassium; and antioxidants such as vitamins C and B6.

Packages can be purchased directly from the ForHers website as a one-time purchase for $ 22 or as a subscription at a reduced price of $ 20 per month.

WHY IT IS IMPORTANT

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are the most common ambulatory infections in the United States, with between 50% and 60% of adult women suffering from at least one urinary tract infection in their lifetime, according to Therapeutic advances in urology.

These infections are more common during the years of peak sexual activity, usually between the ages of 18 and 39. UTIs are known to persist, and more than a quarter of women will have a recurrence within six months of infection, according to the newspaper.

“There is a clear need for ways to be proactive when it comes to urinary tract health,” said Hilary Coles, co-founder and senior vice president of brand and innovation at Hims & Hers, in a statement.

“Having holistic over-the-counter options is important to promoting various elements of women’s health, which is why we now offer these tasty single-serve sachets formulated with vitamins and electrolytes that help maintain pathways. urinary. balance.”

D-Mannose is a common ingredient in UTI drugs for what researchers believe is its ability to prevent bacteria from attaching to the urinary tract. In fact, studies show that D-mannose is an effective treatment and preventative agent for UTIs.

THE BIGGEST TREND

2021 has been a busy year for Hims & Hers so far. The company started the year on a high note by closing its SPAC merger and listing on the New York Stock Exchange.

Since then, Hims & Hers has made a number of strategic acquisitions. First, he bought out UK personalized health company Honest Health with the goal of global expansion. The company quickly followed this by purchasing the Apostrophe teledermatology platform to expand its skin care services.

Uqora, a company specializing in urinary tract health, also sells UTI supplements containing similar ingredients on its direct-to-consumer website.

Meanwhile, there are a number of digital health companies that focus on diagnosing UTIs. In 2019, Scanwell raised $ 3.5 million in seed funding to expand its mobile home UTI screening platform nationwide. Then last year, TestCard launched its non-invasive home urinary tract infection test kit across the UK.
